The Trout Inn, Godstow Road, Oxford OX2 8PN. (01865 510930) Dates from the 12th century, and has huge oak beams and ancient fireplaces. Outdoor seating by the river Isis (Thames), frequented by swans and peacocks. Accessible by foot across Port Meadow (approx. 1hr from Oxford centre), or by car through Wolvercote from the Woodstock Road roundabout.

(01865 241382) Accessible by car, through Marston Village, by foot up the river from University Parks (approx. 45 minutes from Oxford centre), or by punt from the Cherwell Boathouse (approx. 45 mins). Sit by the open fire in winter or in the garden by the river in nice weather.
